Annual Meeting 2019
The annual meeting of the Bioverita association took place this year on June 27, 2019 at the organic breeder Heinz-Peter Christiansen from Saat:gut e.V. The breeder audit was also carried out at the same time by the Bioverita Label Commission on June 28th. The breeding site is at Christiansen’s Bioland farm in Esperstoftfeld (Schleswig-Holstein). Heinz-Peter has been growing his own seed since 2006 and he set off on his own breeding projects in 2009. In August 2010, Saat:gut e.V. was founded to advance organic plant breeding and to make new crops freely available for organic farming.
Currently, Heinz-Peter is working on breeding cauliflowers, broccoli and carrots together with his team. During our visit to his farm and fields we not only looked at the visual characteristics of the crops but also how they tasted.
The following seed varieties from Saat:gut e.V. are already recognized by Bioverita and are available from www.bingenheimersaatgut.de and www.sativa.bio:
- Beetroot “Gesche”
- Parsnip “Schleswiger Schnee”
- Carrot “Treenetaler”
- Carrot “Silberstedter”
